Modern Matron
Modern Matron
A job title for a senior nurse who is responsible for overseeing all of the nurses in a department or directorate. They are pay banded at 8a–8c, less commonly band 7, under the Agenda for Change—which corresponds to grade I, less commonly, grade H, under now-retired the Whitley Council system. The Modern Matron position was created after traditional matrons were abolished in the late 1960s, but has not been well received by other nurses due to a lack of a clear role for the position.
