adenoma with epithelial misplacement

adenoma with epithelial misplacement (large intestine)

The presence of epithelium and glands and/or extravasation of mucin within the submucosa of an adenoma, which is more common in a polyp with an elongated stalk; it is attributed to twisting and torsion of the stalk, occurs in 2% to 4% of adenomatous polyps and may lead to the misdiagnosis of invasive adenocarcinoma.
