Mid-Continent Region

Mid-Continent Region

(Mid-Continent), an oil and gas basin in the central part of the USA, encompassing Kansas, Oklahoma, Iowa, eastern Nebraska, southeastern New Mexico, and the Texas Panhandle. The Mid-Continent Region includes two oil and gas basins—the Western Interior Basin of North America and the Permian Basin. Most of the region has a platform structure; the marginal zones are included in the foredeeps of Paleozoic folded structures. The maximum drilling depths range from 6,700 to 6,900 m. The region accounts for more than one-third of the oil and gas reserves and output of the USA.
