Middle America Trench
Middle America Trench
a depression in the floor of the Pacific Ocean along the western coast of Middle America. The trench is approximately 3,000 km long. It narrows to form a point in the northwest, just above 20° N lat., and ends in the southeast at the foot of the Cocos Ridge. The narrow, flat bottom of the trench is divided by low ridges into several troughs with depths of 4,500 to 6,500 m; the maximum depth is 6,489 m.
