An autoantibody that occurs in megaloblastic pernicious anaemia (PA), severe atrophic gastritis, in autoimmune thyroiditis and in other autoimmune-related conditions; patients with PA may also have antithyroid antibodies. APCA is also found in 2 to 3% of the normal population and increases with age.
