Kiev Museum of Western and Oriental Art

 

the best collection of foreign art in the Ukrainian SSR. Created in 1919 out of the private collection of B. I. and V. N. Khanenko in Kiev, it was called the Art Museum of the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences from 1921 to 1934. During the 1920’s and 1930’s the museum obtained other works from several private collections and from museums in Kiev and Leningrad. It has divisions of oriental and West European art, including works by Gentile Bellini, D. Velazquez, F. Zurbarán, P. P. Rubens, and J. Jordaens. The museum’s collections contain paintings, graphic art, sculpture, and applied art, including a collection of medieval Iranian ceramics.
