Meat-Dairy and Food Control Station
a state veterinary institution in the USSR. Meat-dairy and food control stations are established at markets, where they conduct veterinary-sanitary appraisal of meat, meat products, fish, milk, dairy products, and other agricultural food products, including foods derived from plants, to prevent the sale of products that are unsanitary.
At the station products are inspected, and those approved for sale are stamped (labeled). When necessary, products are tested.
Meat, milk, and other products that are given conditional approval are ordered decontaminated, and products considered unfit for sale are salvaged or destroyed. The sanitary condition of trading places is supervised by the stations. In 1973 there were more than 3, 500 meat-dairy and food control stations in the USSR.
