Oktiabr’skaia Revoliutsiia Island
the largest island in the Severnaia Zemlia archipelago, Krasnoiarsk Krai, RSFSR. It has an area of 14,170 sq km and rises to a maximum elevation of 965 m (Mount Karpinskii). Approximately half of the island is covered by glaciers, which in places extend to the sea. On the ice-free sections there is scanty vegetation of the polar desert and arctic tundra types. The island was explored and named by G. A. Ushakov and N. N. Urvantsev’s expedition of 1930–32.
