Mamaev, Vladimir Petrovich
Born Nov. 30, 1925, in Khabarovsk. Soviet organic chemist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1972). Member of the CPSU since 1952.
Mamaev graduated from the D. I. Mendeleev Moscow Institute of Chemical Engineering in 1947. He was a staff member of the K. E. Voroshilov Scientific Research Institute for Intermediates and Dyes in 1947 and of the Mendeleev Institute of Chemical Engineering from 1947 to 1959. In 1959 he joined the Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Siberian Division of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, and in 1976 he became the director of the institute. Mamaev’s principal works deal with the chemistry of nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds. He has developed methods for synthesizing such compounds as substituted pyrimidines and indoles.
Mamaev has been awarded two orders.
