Mamakan
an urban-type settlement in Irkutsk Oblast, RSFSR. Landing on the Vitim River (a tributary of the Lena) where the Mamakan River flows into it. Located 832 km northeast of the Lena railroad station. The Mamakan Hydro-electric Power Plant is located there.
Mamakan
(in its upper course the Srednii Mamakan), a river that flows through eastern Irkutsk Oblast, RSFSR; a left tributary of the Vitim River (Lena basin). Length, 209 km; basin area, 9,460 sq km. The Mamakan flows north out of the SeveroMuiskii range, cutting through the Deliun-Uranskii mountains. It is fed primarily by rains. High water is from May to September. The average annual water flow is 180 cu m per sec. The river freezes over in October and thaws in May. Its tributaries are the Pravyi Mamakan and Levyi Mamakan (Right Mamakan and Left Mamakan). The Mamakan Hydroelectric Power Plant, with a capacity of 86 megawatts, is on the river.
