Nelaton's line test

Nelaton's line test

A clinical test used to identify coxa vara or a posterior hip dislocation.
Technique
The patient lies supine with the knees extended. The examiner draws an imaginary line from the anterior superior iliac spine to the ischial tuberosity on the same side of the hip/pelvis.
Positive test
The greater trochanter can be palpated well above the imaginary line, implying coxa vara or a posteriorly dislocated hip joint.
