Ostrovskoe

(until 1956, Semenovskoe), an urban-type settlement and administrative center of Ostrovskoe Raion, Kostroma Oblast, RSFSR. It is situated on the Mera River, a tributary of the Volga, on the Kostroma-Manturovo highway, 2 km from the Ostrovskoe railroad station on the Zavolzhsk-Pervushino line. It has a flax-processing plant and a poultry-processing plant. There is a museum dedicated to B. M. Kustodiev, who lived and worked in Ostrovskoe from 1900 through 1916.
