mid·line epi·si·ot·o·my

(mid'līn ĕ-pēz'ē-ot'ŏ-mē) Incision of the perineum in the midline during childbirth to ease delivery. Although less painful after delivery than a mediolateral incision, it is associated with a higher risk of injury to the anal sphincter and the rectum.
