Lonicera CaprifoliumLonicera Caprifoliuma branchy climbing shrub of thehoneysuckle family, attaining a height of 4–6 m. The leaves areglabrous, vary from ovate to elliptical, and have bluish gray undersides. The lower leaves have short stems and the upper are sessile; the broad bases of the opposite leaves fuse around the branch. The flowers are reddish or yellowish and gathered at the ends of the branches in sessile whorls of three to tenflowers. The fruit is a juicy coral red berry. The species growsin forests in the Caucasus, southern Europe, and Southwest Asia.It is used in gardens and parks in making arches and arbors andin decorating walls; in the southern USSR it is grown as a hedge.It is also a medicinal plant, with diuretic and astringent proper-ties.
