Meconopsis
Meconopsis a genus of plants of the family Papaveraceae. They are annual, biennial, or perennial grasses. The plants contain a yellowish milky juice. The entire leaves (either lobed or dissected) are either bare or distinctively pubescent. The large flowers are solitary or in racemose, corymbiform, or paniculate inflorescences. There are four to ten petals, which are primarily yellow, sky blue, or violet, and two sepals (rarely three or four). The fruit is a capsule. Of the approximately 45 species, only one —the Welsh poppy (Meconopsis cambrica) —is found in Western Europe; the rest are distributed in southeastern Asia, from the Himalayas to West China. All species of Meconopsis are used as ornamentals.
