A-0

(language)(Or A0) A language for the UNIVAC I or II, usingthree-address code instructions for solving mathematicalproblems. A-0 was the first language for which a compilerwas developed. It was produced by Grace Hopper's team atRemington Rand in 1952. Later internal versions were A-1,A-2, A-3, AT-3. AT-3 was released as MATH-MATIC.

The first compiled programming language. A-0 was developed for the UNIVAC I in the early 1950s at Remington Rand by a team led by Grace Murray Hopper (later Rear Admiral Hopper). See UNIVAC I, Mark I and COBOL.
