Mogami


Mogami

 

a river in Japan on the island of Honshu. The Mogami River is 216 km long and drains an area of 7,400 sq km. It rises from several sources in the Ide Mountains and in the spurs of the south rim of the Ou Range and flows along the bottom of the Yamagata intermontane basin. In its lower course the Mogami River intersects the spurs of the Asahi Dake mountains and a coastal lowland. It flows into the Sea of Japan near the city of Sakata. High water occurs in the winter and spring; there is low water in the summer. The mean flow rate is approximately 250 cu m per sec. The Mogami is used for irrigation (rice).
