Mogilev Urban Uprising of 1606–10

an antifeudal movement of artisans and urban poor that broke out in Mogilev on June 20, 1606. The uprising was caused by rising taxes and by abuses of power by the city rada (council). On June 25 the rebels disbanded the rada and elected a new one that included representatives of the city’s common people. The Polish government tried unsuccessfully to halt the movement by threatening to use force. In 1610 royal troops occupied Mogilev and put the participants in the Mogilev urban uprising on trial.
