Management Charter

Management Charter

an initiative in the UK by the Council for Management Education and Development to create a national qualification of Chartered Manager. Managers thus qualified would become PROFESSIONALS like accountants or lawyers. Professionalization would require identification of the core skills or ‘competencies’ of management, and a system of training and examination in these areas. Critics of this proposal have argued that management is so diverse that it is difficult to identify a core of competencies that are relevant to all managers. Furthermore certain management skills, such as those relating to managing people, are not easily translatable into a simple set of skills that can be assessed by formal examination. See MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT.
