Mid Staffordshire Inquiry

Mid Staffordshire Inquiry

A formal investigation into the scandal at the Mid Staffordshire Foundation trust, in which patients were left lying in soiled sheets, crying in pain, frightened and so thirsty that they drank water from flower vases. The inquiry concluded patient welfare was sacrificed to meet a 2006/2007 financial target of saving £10 million. The Board decided this saving could only be achieved by reducing staffing levels, which were already insufficient.
