Management Information System

(application)(MIS) A computer system, usually based on amainframe or minicomputer, designed to provide managementpersonnel with up-to-date information on an organisation'sperformance, e.g. inventory and sales. These systems outputinformation in a form that is useable by managers at alllevels of the organisation: strategic, tactical, andoperational. A good example of an MIS report is an annualreport for a stockholder (a scheduled report).
