Kinnell, Galway

(1927– ) poet, writer; born in Providence, R.I. He studied at Princeton (B.A. 1948), and the University of Rochester (M.A. 1949), traveled widely, and taught at many colleges. Based in Sheffield, Vt., he was a translator and essay writer, but is best known for his direct and precise poetry, as in Selected Poems (1982).
