Bier’s hyperemic treatment

Bier’s hyperemic treatment

A therapeutic modality which reduces blood flow to a specific body region by surrounding it with hot air. Developed by a German physician, August Bier (1861–1949), BT was used at the turn of the 20th century for arthritis, low back pain and varicose veins. Regional hyperthermia is no longer eponymically dignified, and hot air is an inefficient and poorly quantifiable method of heating a particular region.
