Bieszczady

a mountain range in the Carpathians, in Poland, near its borders with the USSR and Czechoslovakia. It is part of the eastern Beskids between the Lupkow Pass in the west and Užok Pass in the east. It has elevations to 1,348 m (Mount Tarnica). The range is composed of flysch. It has flat summits and is dissected by lengthwise river valleys of the system of the upper course of the San River. Beech-fir-spruce forests predominate to an elevation of 1,100 m. Higher, there are subalpine meadows that are used as pastures.
