Nadel
Nadel
an allotment of land presented by a feudal lord or the state to a peasant for his use in return for various obligations.
In V. I. Lenin’s definition, the nadel was the peasant’s wages in kind for his work for the landowner (Poln. sobr. soch., 5th ed., vol. 1, p. 191). The nadel provided the means of existence of both the peasant and the lord, who acquired in various forms the surplus product created by the peasant’s labor. The nadel presupposed extraeconomic constraint.
In Russia after the Peasant Reform of 1861, the nadel was converted into communal or individual (household) peasant property.
