Ounas Upland
Ounas Upland
(Finnish, Ounasselkä), an elevated region in northwestern Finland. It is approximately 200 km long and rises to an elevation of 821 m, at Mount Pallas.
The Ounas Upland is composed primarily of Precambrian crystalline and metamorphic rocks. Its surface is plateau-like, with individual erosion remnant peaks and morainal ridges and numerous glacial lakes. There are pine and sparse birch forests, and mountain tundra is found on the peaks. The Pallas-Ounastunturi National Park, with a nature and skiing museum, is located in the northern part of the upland.
