Legault, François,

1957–, Canadian business executive and politician. An accountant by training, he cofounded and led the budget airline Air Transat (1986–97). As a member of the separatist Parti QuébécoisParti Québécois
(PQ), provincial political party committed to the independence of Quebec. Founded in 1968, it soon became a force in provincial elections. In 1976, led by René Lévesque, it captured control of the provincial assembly.

, he served (1998–2009) in Quebec's national assembly and was (1998–2003) minister of industry and commerce, of education, of employment, and of health and social services. In 2011 he cofounded the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ), a center-right party rejecting independence, and returned to the national assembly in 2012. After CAQ's win in Quebec's 2018 elections, Legault became premier.
