Kirill Kondratev

Kondrat’ev, Kirill Iakovlevich

Born June 14, 1920, in Rybinsk. Soviet geophysicist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1968). Member of the CPSU since 1943.

Upon graduating from Leningrad State University in 1946, Kondrat’ev began working there, becoming a professor in 1958 and serving as the university’s rector from 1964 to 1970. At the same time, beginning in 1961, he worked at the Main Geophysical Observatory.

Kondrat’ev’s principal works are devoted to radiation problems in satellite meteorology, atmospheric optics, and actinometry. He was awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and several medals. He is a member of the International Academy of Astronautics (1969).
