A malignant lesion of the ovarian surface epithelium, which affects women in early menopause, and may be associated with teratomas and Brenner tumour.
Cell of origin
Unclear. Possibly monodermal teratoma, or metaplasia of ovarian surface epithelium.
 
DiffDx
Metastasis from colon, rectum, appendix, cervix, pancreas, biliary tract, stomach.
Mucinous carcinoma: primary vs metastatic
• Primary—more often expansile, complex papillary pattern;
• Metastatic—more often bilateral, multifocal, primarily serosal, vasculoinvasive.
