Kirovo-Chepetsk

 

(until 1955, the settlement of Kirovo-Chepetskii), city in Kirov Oblast, RSFSR. Located where the Cheptsa River flows into the Viatka, 38 km southeast of Kirov, with which it is linked by regular bus service. A railroad branch connects it with the Kirov-Iar line. Population, 54,000 (1972). There is a heat and electric power plant with an output of 208 megawatts that runs on peat and Pechora coal. Other industry includes a metalworking plant, a reinforced-concrete plant, a garment factory, a toy factory, and food-processing enterprises.
