Kirthar Range

Kirthar Range

a mountain range along the southeastern edge of the Iranian Plateau in Pakistan. It measures about 300 km long and rises to an elevation of 2,171 m. The mountains are composed primarily of limestones, which form narrow rocky ridges, and of sandstones. The western and northeastern slopes, which are subject to monsoons, are covered with sparse woody-shrub vegetation. The other slopes are drier, with deserts and semideserts predominating. Irrigated agriculture is practiced in the oases at the foothills.
