Location:North-central Kansas.
Facilities:Visitor center, viewing sites, hiking trail, auto tour route.
Activities:Fishing, hiking, hunting, educational programs.
Special Features:In perfect conditions, the refuge can support approximately 1 million ducks and geese. Hundreds of great blue herons and double-crested cormorants nest in the flooded timber under high water conditions, while interior least terns nest in times of low water.
Habitats: 10,778 acres of tallgrass prairie, shortgrass plains, riparian forest, wetlands, cropland and open water.
Access: Unlimited.
Wild life: Waterfowl, waterbirds, shorebirds, also rabbits, fox squirrels, black-tailed prairie dogs, and white-tailed deer.
