Legkaia Industriia

(Light Industry), a Soviet publishing house working in the subject areas of light industry, the textile industry, and local industries, as well as everyday services to the population.

The Legkaia Industriia Publishing House is located in Moscow. It was founded in 1932 under the name of Gizlegprom under the People’s Commissariat for Light Industry of the USSR, reorganized into Rostekhizdat in 1959, and changed back again into Gizlegprom in February 1963. In August 1963 the publishing houses Gizlegprom and Gosbytizdat were combined into the Legkaia Industriia Publishing House, forming a part of the Committee on Print of the Council of Ministers of the USSR (since 1972, the State Committee of the Council of Ministers of the USSR on Publishing, Printing, and the Book Trade). The 1973 production was 219 titles with a total of 60,300 printed sheets, constituting 8,977,000 copies. The periodicals published include Tekstil’naia promyshlennost’ (Textile Industry), Shveinaia promyshlennost’ (Garment Industry), Kozhevenno-obuvnaia promyshlennost’ (Leather and Shoe Industry), and Sluzhba byta (Everyday Services).
