mediator complex

mediator complex

coactivation proteins involved in RNA polymerase transcription of DNA segments.

mediator complex

A multimeric protein complex that is required for DNA-binding activation and regulated transcription of nearly all RNA polymerase II-dependent genes. The mediator complex (MC) serves as a bridge, conveying information from gene-specific regulatory proteins to the basal RNA polymerase II transcription machinery. It is recruited to promoters by direct interactions with regulatory proteins, and it serves as a scaffold for assembling a functional pre-initiation complex with RNA polymerase II and general transcription factors.
