Location:25 miles northwest of Okeechobee via US 441 and County Road 724.
Facilities:Full-facility campsites (including a horseback campground) withrestrooms (é) and showers, primitive campsites, 2 large Port-o-lets,restroom at park office (é), picnic tables, trails.
Activities:Camping, fishing, hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, birding, wildlife viewing, guided swamp buggy tours.
Special Features:Preserve is one of the largest remaining stretches of Florida dryprairie,reminiscent of the Great Plains of the Midwest. The preserve offersexcellent seasonal birding opportunities and is home to theendangered Florida grasshopper sparrow, as well as the crested caracaraand sandhill crane. This is also one of the few areas in the statethat is far enough from urban and suburban locations to eliminate lightpollution, which creates a setting for outstanding stargazing.
