the Russian designation of a group of pore-bearing mushrooms of the genus Boletus. The surface of the cap is usually dry and velvety; in early maturity it is sometimes sticky. The stem does not have a ring. Boletus variegatus, which has a yellow-brown cap and a brownish olive layer of pores, grows in pine forests during the months of August, September, and October. B. subtomentosus has an olive-brown cap and a yellow layer of pores; it grows in various forests from July through October. B. chrysenteron, with a red, usually fissured, cap, grows in deciduous forests from July through September. The mushrooms are edible and turn black upon drying. B. variegatus is often pickled.
