Mokshen’ Pravda (Moksha Pravda)

 

the republic newspaper of the Mordovian ASSR, in Moksha-Mordovian. Published three times per week in Saransk. It began as the newspaper lakstere teshte (Red Star), the first issue of which appeared in Moscow in 1921. During its early years the newspaper was printed in Moksha and Erzia; in May 1924 a newspaper in Moksha-Mordovian, Od vele (The New Village), separated from lakstere teshte and was published first in Penza and then in Saransk. Since August 1932 its name has been MokshenPravda.

MokshenPravda has played a significant role in the genesis and development of Mordovian writing, the grammatical norms of Moksha-Mordovian, and the national literature. The newspaper was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor in 1971. Circulation, 8,000 (1973).
