Special Features:The Old Croton Aqueduct was New York city's first public water supply system, capable of carrying 100 million gallons of water a day. Construction of the Aqueduct and dam began in 1837, and today northern sections continue to supply water to the town of Ossining. In 1992, the Old Aqueduct was granted National Historic Landmark status, and a 22-mile segment was designated as part of the Hudson River Trail.
