Lord Advocate
Lord Advocate n (Professions) (in Scotland) the chief law officer of the Crown who acts as public prosecutor and is in charge of the administration of criminal justice Lord Advocate
Lord Advocate the senior law officer for Scotland. All prosecutions run in his name, and he represents many government departments in Scotland. He is a member of the government but need not be a Member of Parliament. Actions by and against government departments are raised by and against the Lord Advocate.
