Lord Howe Rise


Lord Howe Rise

 

an underwater ridge in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, extending northwest from New Zealand to Lord Howe Island and then turning northward and ending in the Coral Sea at 18°S lat. The ridge is about 2,500 km long and up to 500 km wide. It has a flat crest approximately 200 km wide, descending from 480 to 1,400 m below the surface in the north. The ridge is considered to be a continuation of the Paleozoic structures of New Zealand.
