A healthcare organisation which is defined by:• Structure—a physical plant (e.g., a hospital) and buildings in which healthcare, research, staff support, and ancillary services are provided; and
• Function—medical services that may be more complex than those provided by a traditional community hospital.
A larger hospital is often called a major medical centre.
