Le Hong Fong

Born 1902 in the village of Thong Lang, Huong Nguyen District, Nghe An Province; died Sept. 6, 1942, on Poulo Condore Island. A leader of the Communist Party of Indochina.

In February 1930, Le Hong Fong and Ho Chi Minh directed the work of the Hong Kong conference; at this conference the Communist Party of Vietnam was organized through the merger of several communist organizations that had arisen in the country in the preceding years. (In October 1930 the party was renamed the Communist Party of Indochina.) Le Hong Fong was elected to of the Central Committee of the party at its First Congress, held in March 1935. Arrested in 1938 and sentenced to five years of prison in 1939, he died in prison as a result of torture and brutal treatment.
