Kitchlev, Saifuddin

Born August 1885; died Oct. 9, 1963, in Delhi. Indian public figure; an attorney and doctor of law. He graduated from Allahabad and Cambridge universities and was a member of the Indian National Congress Party. In 1919 he became one of the leaders of the national liberation movement in northwest India. After India won independence in 1947, he helped organize and lead the peace movement. In 1951 he was elected president of the All-India Peace Council and a member of the World Peace Council. From 1955 to 1959 he was vice-president of the World Peace Council, becoming a member of the council’s Presidium in 1959. In 1952 he was awarded the International Lenin Prize for Strengthening Peace Between Nations.
