Kitzinger, Ernst Kitzinger, Ernst(1912– ) art historian; born in Munich, Germany. He studied at the University of Rome (1931–32), the University of Munich (Ph.D. 1934), and at Swarthmore, Pa. (D.Litt. 1969). He worked in England at the British Museum (1935–40), emigrated to America (1941), and taught at Harvard beginning in 1979. He also taught at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton (1966–67, 1980, 1982). He specialized in early Christian, Byzantine, and early medieval art. |
