Mandur Muhammad

Born 1907; died 1965. Egyptian literary scholar and critic.

Mandur studied at the University of Cairo and in France. He was chief editor of the journal Al-Sharq (The East). In his monographs and articles, Mandur gave a detailed account of the history of Arab literary criticism and Egyptian poetry and drama of the first half of the 20th century. He wrote monographs on the work of A. Shawqi, Wali al-din Yakun, Kh. Mutran, I. al-Mazini, and Tawfiq al-Hakim. In his book A Visit to the World of Socialism (1957), Mandur described his trip to the USSR and the Rumanian Socialist Republic. He was a member of the Committee for Supporters of Peace in the OAS and a member of the World Peace Council.
