[′mōld ‚lȯft]Mold Loft
a shipyard facility with a smooth floor that is usually painted black. A ship’s lines are laid out full-scale on the mold loft floor. The lines are then used to prepare templates for cutting out and bending individual elements of the shell plating and the framing. The aviation industry also uses mold lofts.
