The text is notreally Greek, but badly garbled Latin. It started life asextracted phrases from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 ofCicero's "De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" ("The Extremes ofGood and Evil"), which read: Sed ut perspiciatis unde omnis iste natus error sit voluptatemaccusantium doloremque laudantium, totam rem aperiam, eaqueipsa quae ab illo inventore veritatis et quasi architectobeatae vitae dicta sunt explicabo. No one rejects, dislikes,or avoids pleasure itself, because it is pleasure, but becausethose who do not know how to pursue pleasure rationallyencounter consequences that are extremely painful. On the other hand, we denounce with righteous indignation anddislike men who are so beguiled and demoralized by the charmsof pleasure of the moment, so blinded by desire, that theycannot foresee the pain and trouble that are bound to ensue;and equal blame belongs to those who fail in their dutythrough weakness of will, which is the same as saying throughshrinking from toil and pain. These cases are perfectlysimple and easy to distinguish. In a free hour, when ourpower of choice is untrammelled and when nothing prevents ourbeing able to do what we like best, every pleasure is to bewelcomed and every pain avoided. But in certain circumstancesand owing to the claims of duty or the obligations of businessit will frequently occur that pleasures have to be repudiatedand annoyances accepted. The wise man therefore always holdsin these matters to this principle of selection: he rejectspleasures to secure other greater pleasures, or else heendures pains to avoid worse pains. -- Translation by H. The point of using this text, or some other text of incidentalintelligibility, is that it has a more-or-less normal (forEnglish and Latin, at least) distribution of ascenders,descenders, and word-lengths, as opposed to just using "abc123 abc 123", "Content here content here", or the like.
