LoriinaeLoriinae(brush-tongued parrots), a subfamily of the family Psittacidae. The body length measures 14-40 cm. The tip of the tongue has a little brush formed of thin horny growths—an adaptation for sucking the nectar from flowers. The feathers are usually brightly colored in combinations of green and red. There are 62 species. They are distributed from the Philippines to southern Australia and Tasmania, as well as in Polynesia. The Loriinae dwell in forests, nesting in tree hollows and feeding on berries, fruits, and nectar from flowers. They are frequently kept in captivity. Loriinae
