no radio
no radio (NORDO)An expression describing an aircraft as having no ability to communicate by radio because of the absence or failure of the radio equipment. The slang “NORDO” is used by the pilots and ATC (air traffic control) to refer to an aircraft that has lost its ability to communicate by radio. Standard pilot procedures are specified for this contingency. Radar controllers issue procedures for pilots to follow in the event of lost communications during a radar approach when weather reports indicate that an aircraft will likely encounter IFR (instrument flight rules) weather conditions during the approach.AcronymsSee7600 |
