Mikeladze, Evgenii Semenovich

Born June 27, 1903; died December 1937 in Tbilisi. Soviet conductor. Honored Worker of the Georgian SSR (1936).

Mikeladze graduated from the Leningrad Conservatory, where he had studied under N. A. Mal’ko and A. V. Gauk. From 1931 to 1937 he was a conductor at the Z. Paliashvili Georgian Theater of Opera and Ballet. He became the theater’s principal conductor in 1933. He participated in the staging of the operas Faust (Gounod), Carmen (Bizet), Aïda and Otello (Verdi), Prince Igor (Borodin), The Queen of Spades (Tchaikovsky), and Abesalom and Eteri and Daisi (Paliashvili). Among the ballets for which Mikeladze was the conductor was Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker. He also conducted symphonies.
